If you have a website, Google Analytics gives you a lot of useful website stats for free. You can see how many visitors you have had, how long they were on your site, how many pages they viewed, how they got to your site, what browser they used, where they are from, etc.

There are several iPhone apps that let you access that information on your phone. I tried out several of the apps in this category, but Analytics App was superior in my opinion. In addition, support is knowledgeable and responsive—always an important consideration.

I decided to use WordPress and the Amplify theme by Kriesi. The theme has a nice slide-show on the homepage and I liked the color scheme. I wanted something similar to my Agile Web Development site to tie the two together, but also a bit different to set them apart.

I frequently check both apps to get a better idea what conditions might really be like to make decisions on my route.

It’s a free app, so you might want to give it a try. It does have a Pro upgrade, but I haven’t tried it yet. If I was commuting, I think the Pro version would be well worth the price for the nice features it includes.

Do you check traffic using the Google app or do you use another traffic app?

I was contacted by the Goleta Valley Dog Club to take over for their webmaster of 10 years who was retiring. They are a very active club located in Goleta, CA that provides agility, obedience and rally classes in addition to weekly agility practices.

We discussed the project and decided to do a complete make-over of their old site. Their website used lots of photo’s to showcase their members accomplishments and were a very important element in the redesign. They also have frequent updates with class schedules, new titles, etc. WordPress would be a perfect fit for this project.

We decided on the Spotlight Theme created by Mateusz Hajdziony. It’s a lovely theme that features a nice image slideshow on the homepage along with photo galleries that would make a nice way to display photos of the members’ dogs.

Visit the Goleta Valley Dog Club website.

TrackThis is one of the more recent additions to my iPhone. It’s a nice simple app for tracking packages.

I’ve only had the opportunity to use it a few times, but it has worked very well. It has even been able to track a shipment for Jack that was being handled by a company we weren’t familiar with.

The app gives push notifications when the status of your package changes. You can decide for each package you track whether you want all notifications or just delayed, out for delivery and delivered notices.

The delivered notice arrived promptly, within 15 minute or so of the package’s actual arrival. It was nice to know where my packages are and when to expect them.

Sure you can use the carrier’s websites to manually track your packages, but is really convenient to have all the information in one place and to be notified of what’s new.

TrackThis is available in the App Store for $0.99.

I really enjoy my iPhone, from all the useful features to all the great Apps.

It’s not a replacement for my laptop by any means, but it certainly keeps me from having withdrawals.

The first thing I used to do when I returned from a trip was boot up my computer. The rest of the time, it was just about always on. Now, I can sometimes go for days without turning it on. Okay that doesn’t really happen very often, but it’s not the first thing I do when I get home or get up in the morning anymore.

I thought I might share my favorite Apps with you. So I’m going to post a few blogs about the Apps I really enjoy and use frequently. Okay, maybe some of them I don’t use that frequently, but I like them anyway and want to share them with you.

If you use a different App, let me know what it is and why you like it. Maybe I’ll find a new favorite!

The Agile Web Dev site was originally written in xHTML and CSS. I find it more difficult to work on my own website and I was never been happy with it. Over the years I have made updates to the look, but it still wasn’t right.

In 2010, I decided to redesign it again, this time using WordPress. I found a beautiful theme called Graphite, created by Mateusz Hajdziony. And for once, I’m finally pleased with my own website.
